Contursi Terme

The first testimonies about Contursi terme date back to the I century B.C. Plinius the old, in his “Strabonus books”, mentioned spa waters in St. Antonio al Monte. Plinius the old had an outstanding gift, to make “branches and leaves” turn into stone. The waters’ therapeutic skills though, were only discovered in 1231, as testified in the book “Balnea Contursi”, today kept in the diplomatic room of “Santissima Trinità” in Cava dei Tirreni.  Saverio Macrì, from the university of Naples, checked and testified these healthy effects in the middle 1700s. Later on Arnaldo Cantani and Eugenio Caloria added more tests and studies, confirming and supporting the good effects of these waters. The spa lido in Contursi has been known and visited from the early 1800s, but in 1980 a violent earthquake hit many parts of it. With its construction though, the lido spa has been improved and 4 more lidos have been created, all endowed with beautiful and comfortable restaurants and premises. The lidos are:  Capasso terme, Cappetta terme, Forlenza terme, Rosapepe terme and Vulpacchio terme.
